College students today are constantly using their smartphones, utilizing various applications to make their lives easier in any way that they can. As soon as an app for something is released, there is simply no need to do it yourself anymore. If there was an app that could do your homework for you, students would never open a textbook again. Sadly, that world seems to be far in the distance. However, the following three app ideas would be totally feasible in this day and age. App developers need to stop creating so much useless garbage and get to work putting ideas like these into motion.
1. Grade Calculator:
One of the most frustrating aspects of college is being able to see online the grades you have received for various assignments and exams, but not being able to see your actual overall grade in a given class, forcing us poor students to hopelessly attempt to mathematically calculate our grade based on the information we do have. If only there was a way to input the information into a smartphone which would then use some sort of application to calculate an overall course grade, thus making it far easier for students to know what grade they need to get on the midterm or final in order to receive a certain grade for the course. How would an app do this, you might ask? I have no idea, that’s not for me to figure out.
2. Restaurant Picker:
Another frustrating question that plagues many college students is the constant conundrum of where to go or what to eat for dinner. Unless by some miracle you find yourself with enough time every day to actually cook yourself multiple meals, then you probably find yourself eating at some sort of restaurant at least a few times a week.
After you have been in college for a while, you probably have a pretty solid list of the places you like to frequently eat at, but the question always arises as to which one of these places you should choose. If only there was an app where you could program in all the places you like to go and then ask the app where to eat that night, to which the app would somehow respond with where you should go, thus eliminating the need for you to make the decision yourself. It’s a genius idea, it just needs an app.
3. Relationship Reviewer:
Now, this one might seem slightly controversial, but I think it would really take off if someone invented it. This app would essentially be a database where people could rate and review other people that they have dated or been in a relationship with. If you are going to go on a date with someone, then before the date you can log on to the app and see what other people who have already dated the person have said about them. You would be able to see how other people have rated your potential future partner’s ability to hold a conversation, physical attractiveness, personality type, and many other factors, to help you decide whether you really want to go on a date with them or not.
If you date someone and your relationship ends on pleasant terms, you should be nice and make sure to leave them a good review on the app to ensure that they have a good shot at a healthy relationship in the future. On the other hand, if you date someone absolutely insane, you can leave a not so nice review, alerting others that they may want to stay away from this one. It would save so much time and energy to get a good glimpse at someone before having to make any sort of commitment to them. And, who better to ask than the people who have already been there before?
Oh, if only these apps existed, then college would be a much easier landscape to navigate. Maybe one day whoever the people are that make smartphone apps will stop sitting around doing whatever they’re doing and finally start developing something useful.
