When I was in 11th grade I took an AP Psychology class at my high school and loved it.
My teacher was the best one I had all throughout high school and the class was so interesting.
However, it is something that does not relate to psychology at all that I took away the most with me from the class.
My teacher gave us what he deemed 'his best advice for college' and that is what has stuck with me ever since.
He said that his best advice was to never skip class, unless of course you were super sick or were really unable to make it for some reason. He backed this up by telling us his own college story and how he had skipped class often and it really hurt him academically.
Of course at the time I still had a whole other grade to get through and college applications still until I actually needed to think about that.
However, when I did eventually get accepted into NC State I remembered this whenever I really didn't feel like going to class.
There were days when waking up for my 8:30 am classes seemed like an impossible feat. Then there were others when I just felt a tiny bit under the weather, even though I was totally fine to go to class.
On all of those days, I would sit in bed and contemplate if it was worth it to get out of bed.
But then I remembered what my teacher had said and how much my parents were paying for me to be at school. I would think about what i wanted to do in the future and how if I wanted to get there, than doing well in school was the first step. But of course, to do well in school I would have to go to class.
This made me roll out of bed and get ready for class.
So, to anyone in college already or to anyone who is about to go to college, this would be my best advice to you: go to class!
There are many reasons why you should go to class such as that you may miss material, you may miss a test, you will be behind, and that you may get points off for having so many absences.
College costs a lot and you may as well get the most out of what is being paid for.
Of course you may be super sick and have to miss or you may just not feel like going and that is ok.
Just do your best and try and schedule your classes around times when you will not be dreading to go to class. Like if you are a morning person, then take morning classes and vice versa.
So if my former AP Psychology teacher somehow sees this, thank you and you made in impact on my life!
