Cold and flu season is right around the corner, if not already here. Getting a small cold this time of year is usually inevitable, but there are things you can do to prevent it.
1. Don't touch your face
During the day, you touch multiple surfaces that carry bacteria. If you avoid touching your face you can prevent coming in direct hand to mouth contact with pathogens.
2. Wash your hands
This is so simple, but so often forgotten. Also, winter tends to dry your hands out. So don't forget to carry a small bottle of moisturizer. (Moms, buy one at the dollar store for your kids to carry around at school. It's a good habit to start early on.)
3. Exercise
So you're saying... exercise can keep you from getting sick?
Yes, it can! Exercise can help maintain a healthy immune system. Without going into the science of it all, exercise helps your general health, which in turn will contribute to a better immune system.
4. Drop the drinkin'
With Christmas, Thanksgiving, and all of our favorite holidays coming up it's a little hard to stay away from eggnog and peppermint schnapps. But drinking damages your immune system and makes it hard to stay healthy.
5. Eat more...
Protein. Don't ask questions, just trust me on this one.
6. Take vitamins
Get your daily dose of zinc and maybe throw in a bottle of Emergen-C! It comes in pretty clutch when your body needs it.
7. Sanitize everything
Most people don't like to be considered a germophobe, but wiping down your cellphone, steering wheel, and a few door handles daily can save you from a miserable cold and cough!
Getting a cold, the flu or a cough is often inevitable during this time of year, but you might as well put in the extra effort to avoid it. Being sick takes quality time away from your life, and life is too short to feel poorly! So follow these steps and maybe you'll luck out.
