9 Healthy Reasons To Drink Coffee

Good news, coffee enthusiasts! Besides giving you that needed boost of energy day, coffee is good for your body in a variety of other ways!

1. Coffee gives you a short-term memory boost.

In a variety of studies, it has been proven that caffeine affects particular areas of your brain that are responsible for concentration and memory. (I always knew I owe my success in school to coffee!)

2. Coffee is good for your heart.

Coffee supports cardiovascular health by reducing arterial damage caused by inflammation.

3. Coffee can bring your exercise performance to a new level.

Caffeine is a performance and endurance enhancer, thus pushing you along throughout your workout and providing you with needed excess energy.

4. Coffee prevents depression.

Besides the fact that coffee is yummy and comes in a variety of flavors and varieties (which makes me pretty darn happy), the caffeine in coffee activates neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin, which affect your mood.

5. Coffee can reduce your risk of Type II Diabetes.

Coffee enables effective regulation of blood sugar, prevents tissue damage, and decreases inflammation. Just be mindful about the amount of sugar you add to that cup.

6. Coffee keeps your mind sharp.

That's right, coffee prevents cognitive decline. Regular coffee drinkers are associated with lower risks of dementia, as well as lower possibility of developing neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.

7. Coffee is beneficial to your liver.

That's right, the effects of those six margaritas you drank last weekend will be offset by your daily coffee beverage! (Or, something like that.)

8. Coffee assists your body in burning fat.

Because of its stimulant effect on the central nervous system, coffee raises metabolism and increases the oxidation of fatty acids.

9. Coffee helps you stay awake and alert.

Probably the most obvious and well-known benefit, the caffeine in coffee assists you in remaining conscious, even in the most boring of situations, like that 8 AM organic chemistry class.

Keep in mind that too much of a good thing is never a good thing, so be sure to limit your intake to a few cups a day, or less. P.S. I highly recommend the blonde vanilla latte from Starbucks!

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
