CNN, You're Being Ridiculous

It was a harmless meme, get over it.

CNN, You're Being Ridiculous

We are all aware of the meme that Trump tweeted out last week which involves him taking out CNN. While extremely funny, it, of course, was highly immature.

I’m not writing an article to take issue with his meme because, in all honesty, it seemed more like a funny, juvenile tweet that wasn’t all that appropriate for a president to post but nonetheless not damaging to him. I am writing, however, to talk about CNN’s response.

I’ve never been a fan of CNN –– not to sound cliché but they are quite biased. This week, they published an article regarding the meme and the Reddit user who posted it. The user, who will remain nameless unless CNN’s feelings get hurt again, apologized EXTENSIVELY for simply making a harmless and funny meme, which someone was bound to make at this point. CNN said that while they do know the user’s identity, they will withhold it because he seemed remorseful, but that they reserve the right to release it.

#CNNBlackmail is a current trending hashtag on social media now as many believe that CNN blackmailed the user, which is probably true considering their apology was not necessary and overly extensive for a simple meme.

Also, there is cause to believe that the article itself was blackmail since CNN says that if that user basically does anything else ‘offensive’ they will release their name. First off, is CNN the new FBI that they managed to find out all this information on the creator of this meme? Impressive!! Since when does CNN get so triggered over a meme? Need a safe space much? Just because they thought Trump’s tweet was immature/un-presidential/stupid doesn’t mean you go after the creator of a funny meme, just relax.

I’m not condemning or condoning Trump’s tweet because it has had zero effect on anything, but I am condemning CNN’s response to the meme itself and how they bullied a user into giving an apology. Shame on you CNN.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
