Now that the craze has slowed down we can discuss what, in the world, happened.

“Clown hunting” is something college students have come to understand all too well these past few weeks. When an out-of-hand call about “clowns luring kids into the woods” and it turns into a freak show across the US, you know you have a problem.

On multiple campuses across the nation, "clown hunting" has become a sport. The creepy videos that feature someone driving down a dirt road and they come upon someone dressed in a clown costume. The endings vary from the clown running after the car, and occasionally jumping onto the back of it and the clown running from sight and reappearing in the rearview mirror moments later to the most violent videos where the driver and a passenger gets out and confronts the masked menace and beats them.

The only thing that's clever about this clown event is to promote the upcoming "It" remake. Otherwise, these sightings (which turn out to be hoaxes in most cases) are just a waste of everyone's time and an unnecessary grinding of our psyche.

A few weeks ago OSU went on their own clown hunt. Hundreds of people left their beds around midnight and walked across campus chasing down "leads" from people on social media.

People stating that they saw a clown near the Library sparked a ton of interest and had people afraid to walk home at such a late hour, especially when other people were saying they spotted a clown near a residential dorm.

For those who did not give into the hype, or were too afraid to follow the trend of walking around a large campus at midnight, they took to watching various social media accounts, switching between a few in order to not miss a thing.

The amount of student involvement and how people encouraged each other is outrageous. Something so simple and scary can bring together people that are so diferent.

Now that the hysteria has calmed down, the hype of "killer" clowns trying to steal your kids and trap you on a dirt road has become a thing of memories and nightmares. The effects of the Clown Hunt has become meme (a humorous image that has taken the internet by storm) and a violent lifestyle.

The actions of the people that mimic this profession have affected an actual lifestyle. There are professional clowns that have had to lay low in order keep their livelihood. Even the McDonald's Corporation has restricted how often Ronald McDonald is seen at community events.

According to the BBC, sightings of clowns have been heard from other places around the world, such as Australia, the UK, and even Brazil.

Halloween is right around the corner and costumes are all the rage right now. Keep in mind, when choosing your costume, not to choose something that could potentially land you in jail before All Hallows Eve.
