As summer approaches, the Sun's direct sunlight becomes more focused on the North Pole, rather than the South Pole. This phenomenon occurs every year due to the tilt of the Earth's axis as it revolves around the Sun. Due to the more direct sunlight penetrating the Northern Hemisphere, the summer heat warms the air, waters, and anything under its path. The heat from the Sun brings ultraviolet radiation from the Sun along with it, which is naturally dispersed back into space, but when it is absorbed it is known as the Greenhouse Effect.

The Greenhouse Effect is a blanket of molecules and atoms that surround the Earth in a spherical shape. It is comprised of carbon dioxide (CO₂ ), water vapor (H₂O), methane (CH₄ ), and nitrous oxide (N₂O ). These molecules absorb the infrared radiation (heat) from the Sun and warm the overall temperature of the Earth. In the past century or so, the Earth's temperature has exponentially increased. Due to the Industrial Revolution which began circa 1760, humans have caused more carbon dioxide to be emitted into the atmosphere than ever before known. What does this mean? Well, the warmer the planet, the more disastrous storms and unsustainability. Due to the increase in temperature and storms, climate change has become more noticeable. As cost increase to help the aftermath of the storms, the government should take steps to control the temperature of the Earth by lowering the emissions of carbon dioxide and other harmful, heat-absorbant molecules into the atmosphere and by taking a progressive approach to finding a solution.

As of 2005, Hurricane Katrina became one of the most devastating hurricanes in the Atlantic with the costliest amount of $108 billion (USD). More recently, Hurricane Harvey and Irma could cost $200 billion (USD) in reparative reparations. To find a solution would mean needing to find the root source of the disastrous storms.

Storms in the Atlantic form over 4,000 miles east adjacent to where to hurricanes actually occur. Most of the storms occur due to atmospheric disturbances that cause a collage of thunderstorms to sweep across sub-Saharan Africa. As the disturbance moves east to west, it encounters the warm waters of the Atlantic ocean. It is here where the thunderstorms feed off of the warm, moist air and becomes more organized. The thunderstorms rotate around one another and build in strength as it travels across the Atlantic. In other words, the heat given off by the ocean is converted into mechanical energy that creates the winds so the more heat-absorbant molecules in the atmosphere will warm the Atlantic ocean and allow the winds of the hurricane to increase its rotation rate.

There are many solutions to resolving disastrous hurricanes, especially the hurricanes that form in the Atlantic. Actually, the cost of bringing forth the solution would ultimately be less than paying for reparations of the aftermath. Ways to help with climate change would be to find alternate energy sources other than burning fossil fuels and emitting carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gases. Although there are many other ways humans contribute to climate change, they can be changed by the same solutions.
