Why Climate Change Is Not A Hoax

When the world is screaming, we should listen.

Why Climate Change Is Not A Hoax

While I know that climate change is a highly contested issue in American politics, and people often clash over whether or not it is a reality, the discussion surrounding climate change needs to be reignited. More importantly, skepticism needs to be countered.

When more than 90% of climate scientists, individuals who devote their entire careers to studying and analyzing the earth's climate fluctuations, overwhelmingly agree that humans have played a significant role in causing climate change, what is the counter-argument here? I'm not saying this to be pompous or snide, I promise. I am genuinely curious. If you believe that man-induced climate change is a hoax, do you believe that the majority of scientists lie? Shouldn't the people who study climate patterns be able to define the narrative surrounding climate change?

Even if you believe otherwise, how would you explain the odd and alarmingly increasing occurrence of natural disasters? In the last month alone, we have seen Hurricane Harvey, Irma, Jose, Katia and more recently, Maria. In fact, each of these hurricanes occurred within days of the others. Hurricane Maria is particularly foreboding, changing from a category 1 to a category 5 hurricane in a mere half of a day.

Mexico is suffering earthquakes, the most recent of which having killed more than 100 people. California is suffering wildfires. Caribbean Islands are dealing with one hurricane after another.

When the world, our home and source of life, is screaming, we should listen.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
