Watching Melania campaign for Trump via Facebook Live is an eye-opening event. She is charismatic and she spoke very well. I am going to go ahead and add a disclaimer here: I voted for Trump. I am doing my best to be unbiased because I disagree with a lot of things both parties are for and I am also for a few things both parties are.
Back to the main point:
Watching Melania Trump’s speech from November 3rd on Facebook Live made me realize how much the United States citizens don’t care about the words that a potential first lady speaks. They care about how she looks and how she projects herself.
Multiple commenters on the Facebook Live event repeated how much more “classy” Melania is than either of the Clinton’s. Some even compared Melania to Jacqueline Kennedy, wife of late President John F. Kennedy. Melania spoke about being a stay-at-home mother and listed the things she does with her 10-year-old son, Barron.
“Classy” is not a presidential requirement. It may look well but it is no reason to choose a president. Women have been judged on their looks for too long. Brains, cunning, and confidence; those are what women need to be judged on. Men are being judged on their masculinity and business savvy and the way they carry themselves.
It does not matter what a man looks like as long as he knows what he is talking about or has an idea to make someone a lot of money.
This comes down to feminism. Women are considered the fairer sex. Women are known for being calm and collected and strong where men are not. Women are typically the backbone of households as well as a key supporter of their families.
Each candidate is almost the polar opposite of the other. Trump is an alleged sexist, a successful businessman, allegedly immature, and an alleged liar. Hillary Clinton isn't a saint either; she's allegedly broken federal law, an alleged liar, she's apparently corrupt, she allegedly is making money off of her campaign tours.
Both candidates aren't the best; they both have their drawbacks and they both have their benefits but it's clear that neither are what is considered "classy." The commenters saying Melania Trump was far more classy than the former Secretary of State were judging the former model off her looks and how well she was trained and how much practice she had gone through to make the speech one for the books, even if the part about cyberbullying was slightly controversial.
This election is a tough one. You have to choose between two people that are the laughing stock of their parties and hope for the best. Choosing the next President of the United States shouldn't be based on wives or husbands or even children, even though Ivanka Trump is a super great person and one of my girl crushes, it should be based on their merits and what they can truly do for this country and how they can change the way other countries look at us.
Don't fret guys, it's almost over and then we get to do this all over again in four years.
