As a college student, with a minor in both communication arts and music, I am always finding ways to take class projects to the next level.
This past semester, I had a class assignment for a News Media course I was taking at St. John’s University. Which (btw) is the school I go to.
For those who may not be familiar, “News Media” is a type of communication arts class.
Though this article is not about bragging about how much I enjoyed the class, I do want to express how enjoyable it was. Overall the professor was simply great, and I appreciated taking on this new responsibility of posting content to a new page.
So exactly what was the project?
The purpose of the project was to select a social media platform and post about topics or issues that are interesting to me, with a purpose.
Disclaimer: Professor, if you are reading this, and my above sentence is not the gist of the project, I sincerely apologize.
I decided to create a page related to “Industry News,” thus the name of the page, @info.industrynews.
The idea of behind the social media page was to relate to @theshaderoom. However, it felt like too much pressure. There would have to be constant posting, and all eyes and ears would need to be everywhere. To be quite honest, I didn’t have time for all of that. Instead, the account became a fun page related to that of Complex or Billboard magazine (but catered to my brand).

So first and foremost, my involvement in interning with entertainment companies has made me familiar with music, fashion bloggers, beauty gurus and more. My love and understanding of this industry just felt so natural to me that I wanted to expand my brand.
Beginning Stages
At first, it was a bit difficult for me keep up with posting content.
During the creating stages, I originally made a Tumblr in hopes of challenging myself as a social media user. However, I quickly lost interest in the platform and made the switch to Instagram, a much more engaging and convenient environment.
Purpose
Keeping individuals up to date on the latest news and trends in the entertainment business. As the content lead and strategist, the page seeks to target individuals who are into, music, news (mostly celebrity), and fashion.
Indirectly, I sincerely hope to inspire others to create their own content. By running the page on my own, and creating my own version of what I think looks good, I want to push others to do the same. As a personal attribute, I’ve always wanted to create a page solely focusing on creating content and audience engagement. However, I knew I didn’t really have a strong support system (friends who would promote the page, out of the kindness of their hearts). Having the class assignment as a reason to do this page, allowed me to be me.
Content
As mentioned before, I offer three different aspects of the entertainment industry. This includes music (the latest trending songs/albums), news (an interesting article that I’ve read that I believe is worth sharing), and fashion (what’s the latest trend or newest releases).
Fun Fact: The content is posted exactly in that order.
I aim to provide my followers with the latest material they’d need to know. For example, (Music) Rita Ora, Cardi B, Bebe Rexha, & Charli XCX just released a single on Friday (my platform covered that information). (News) Janelle Monae revealed in an interview last week that she is pansexual. Don’t know what it was? Check out my Janelle post for more information. (Fashion), what are my Met Gala looks of 2018? Definitely check those out.
Ultimate goal
To invite everyone interested view my page.
In the end, if you decide to follow the page, please message me so I know! In all, thank you for the support!
