On July 7th, one of the biggest cards of the year will be taking place as this stacked card is nothing short of exciting. In the Co-Main Event, Brian Ortega will finally get his well-deserved title shot against the reigning defending Featherweight Champion Max Holloway. This fight is just one of many that is pretty much guaranteed to have us jumping out of our seats as we watch on that night.
Max Holloway recently stepped up to the plate to face Khabib Nurmagomedov for the Lightweight title at UFC 223 but it fell through because Max was not medically fit to fight that day and was uncleared to fight. Max would have had the opportunity of a lifetime if he had stepped into the octagon against Khabib and became a title holder in 2 divisions since Conor Mcgregor defeated Eddie Alvarez for the Lightweight Championship. But for the "Blessed" Champ Max Holloway he already has his eyes set on defending his crown against the UFC's next rising star te undefeated Brian "T-City" Ortega.
Brian Ortega currently has 14 wins 0 losses and 1 no contest in the UFC as he is approaching his first title opportunity. He became the first person in UFC History at UFC 222 to knockout and finish Frankie Edgar which started off with a brutal elbow to wobbled Frankie then took his lights out with a fierce uppercut. It was pretty clear after a performance like that, the #1 ranked Featherweight "T-City" Ortega was on his way to a title shot.
A win for Brian can be huge as he will be the first to defeat Holloway since he won the belt at UFC 212. Many speculate that if Brian is to win it will be by his deadly submission game that has made an impact in the UFC like no other. Brian has the potential to the rule the Featherweight Division with an iron first as he has been a problem for anyone who steps in front of him.
Since his unanimous decision loss to Conor Mcgregor back at UFC Fight Night 26 in 2013, The Featherweight Champion Max Holloway has been on a tear destroying anyone who steps in front of him. We last saw him once again dismantle Jose Aldo as he successfully defended his belt for the first time since winning it. Completely out striking Aldo with every punch and beating him by keeping up a pace that was just overwhelming. Max will make a huge statement if he was able to put away Ortega in the same fashion.
Max is already considering becoming a 2 division champion as he was medically uncleared to fight when he had his first opportunity a few weeks ago. If the "Blessed" Holloway can shut down the hype train that is Brian Ortega we can pretty much already see Max being apart of a potential super fight this year. Maybe another attempt at booking Max and Khabib? But Khabib has business to handle with Conor first of course.
