One of my favorite ways to enjoy the holiday season is by watching Christmas movies. There's nothing quite like getting the whole family or your friends around the TV with some popcorn and hot chocolate to get you into the holiday spirit. Now that Thanksgiving has passed, it's officially acceptable to start watching Christmas movies, so here are nine of my favorites that you must watch this season.
1. "White Christmas" (1954)
"White Christmas" is a classic that chronicles the combined efforts of two friends and two sisters in show business who team up in an attempt to save an old general's inn in Vermont by creating a musical production.
2. "Elf" (2003)
After Buddy the elf is kicked out of the North Pole because he doesn't fit in with the other elves, he embarks on a trip to New York City to reconnect with his birth father and spread Christmas cheer for all to hear.
3. "Christmas in Connecticut" (1945)
Elizabeth Lane, a young woman living in New York City, writes articles for "Smart Housekeeping" about her fictitious life as a Connecticut housewife. She's put in a difficult situation when her editor insists on her hosting a sailor at her farmhouse for the holidays.
4. "Eloise at Christmastime" (2003)
In the sequel to "Eloise at the Plaza," six-year-old Eloise embarks on a mission to break up the wedding of the Plaza owner's daughter, Rachel, so that she can be reunited with her one true love, Bill.
5. "Holiday Inn" (1942)
Jim Hardy decides to leave show business to open up "Holiday Inn," an inn that is only open on holidays and provides its guests with an evening of singing, dancing and food. However, when Jim's friend Ted tries to steal Jim's new partner and love interest, Linda, Jim devises a plan to keep him away.
6. "The Santa Clause" (1994)
When Scott Calvin accidentally kills Santa Claus by making him fall off of the roof, he discovers that it is now his job to take on the duties of Santa Claus.
7. "Miracle on 34th Street" (1947)
Little Susan Walker has always been told by her own mother that Santa Claus doesn't exist. However, their lawyer-neighbor and Kris Kringle himself team up to convince both Susan and her mother that Santa Claus does indeed exist.
8. "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" (1964)
This movie tells the story of how a misfit-reindeer born with a glowing red nose becomes the guide of Santa's sleigh one stormy night.
9. "It's a Wonderful Life" (1946)
In the rise of the Great Depression, banker George Bailey tries to take his own life. However, an angel named Clarence steps in to save George and to prove to him that his life on Earth is meaningful and important to others.
