I remember as a younger kid, my family and I would spend almost every Christmas in Florida, as that is where the majority of my moms family is from. Of course, I had an amazing time because it was FLORIDA in the middle of December in New England, but I always remember thinking that something was off.
Then, after my first Christmas up North, I realized how much is added when there is snow involved. Despite this, I do still LOVE Christmas in the warmer states, but I am more accustomed and used to the holiday in the cold.
No doubt about it, there is nothing better than a white Christmas. Waking up on Christmas morning to snow is one of the best feelings ever. It makes the morning cozy and it adds to the relaxing atmosphere of the holiday. This is the one day of the year that I hope for a crazy amount of snow.
The week after Christmas, my family and I usually go on a ski trip. In past years we have been extremely unlucky with the snowfall, which unfortunately leads to terrible conditions. Skiing after Christmas is one of my favorite things to do during the holidays because all of the lights are still strung all over the mountain, and you can't go wrong with the many people skiing in Santa costumes.
Walking to Christmas dinner in shorts and a T-shirt just doesn't seem right to me. Unless you're bundled up and freezing cold, in my mind, the holiday just isn't the same. Getting ready for Christmas dinner is one of my favorite things to do, and it would feel completely unnatural for me to dress up in a short sleeve instead of a big sweater.
The irony of seeing blow up Santas and fake snow all around the warmer states just doesn't seem right to me. Although my heart lies in New England for the holidays, there are many pros to having Christmas in warmer areas. Wherever you're located, I hope everyone has an amazing holiday!
