Growing up in the South, I never had a "White Christmas". In Middle Georgia, the only time we ever spent building snowmen were on the rare late-January days when we would get an inch or two of snow. Watching Christmas movies was one of my favorite things about the season, because for those two hours I was able to pretend that snow was falling outside, that my gingerbread house was actually a success, and that it wasn't 80 degrees outside.
That being said, one of my family's favorite Christmas movies is the not-so-traditional National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. This remains to be one of my favorites, because unlike most Christmas movies it shows that everything isn't perfect, that family can be crazy and embarrassing, but most of all that Christmas - no matter what the weather - is really about the memories that are made.
So, here are a few times that the Griswold family read my mind when it comes to Christmas in the South.
