Christmas Break is rapidly approaching, and yet taking its sweet time to get here. But there’s a lot going on before we can kick back, sleep, and enjoy the holidays with our families. The song, “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” has always been one I have sang along to when I hear it, but since coming to college, if has more meaning, like many other things. Now that I’m in college, being home for Christmas is even more exciting. I can’t wait to be able to watch Christmas movies by a fire, finish Christmas shopping, make cookies with my family and do all the many other things that come with being home at Christmas time.
The things that were always enjoyable and exciting, now give me something to look forward to even more. The activities and excitement of soon being with family is what gives me something to get through exams. The light at the end of the tunnel is the candlelight services, Christmas dinners, stockings, peace and of course sleep. Even though break is only about 2 weeks away, it feels as if a whole semester of work, assignments, and activities are suddenly due. However, Christmas decorations are everywhere, making the stress and craziness less scary, and make life more enjoyable. In addition to providing excitement and joy, the excitement of the Christmas season makes everyone a little happier, a little less stressed, and a little brighter.
In all of the craziness, activities, and assignments, it can be easy to forget the reason for the Christmas. Jesus left paradise to be born as a baby, so years later He could willingly die on a cross, rise again, and save us from an eternal death. That’s the reason for the season. So, as we study, complete projects, and deck the dorms, let’s not forget the reason we celebrate, decorate, and have joy this season. Don’t just overlook the nativity, think about it, appreciate it. Spread the joy of Christmas to everyone you meet. Some people need an extra smile, and a little more merriment to their Christmas season. So, take a deep breath, study hard, spread the cheer, and have a very merry Christmas.
