Christmas break: Netflix, catching up on sleep, and gathering around the tree on Christmas morning. But what about what goes on behind the scenes over Christmas break? You know, like the holiday gatherings, family uproars and spontaneous run-ins to people of your past? Everyone has a little bit of Gallagher in them:

1. When your parents brag at family parties about how well you're doing at college

(While you sit there smiling, praying you passed your finals).

2. And when all of your distant relatives repeat this phrase to you at all of the holiday gatherings:

3. When you come back after being away for three months and your siblings think they own the place

4. When you run into your hometown ex for the first time in months and suddenly get the feels

You realize that even though you deleted them on social media, you can't delete them out of your life while living in the same town over Christmas break.

5. When you're trying to explain to your parents that you need money for spring break because, like, everyone else's parents are throwing them some cash in advance

6. When you take up babysitting as a job over break even though you're just an adult-sized toddler yourself

7. When you get your final grades back and start giving yourself pep talks to prepare for the next semester

8. When you count up all the Christmas money you received from relatives

Woohoo! When you're a broke college student anything helps.

9. When you're reunited with your hometown best friend and she keeps mentioning how close she and her roomie are getting lately

Like, I'm not salty. I just didn't know you had other best friends beside me?

10. When you inevitably start hanging out with that hometown ex again and you two decide to set boundaries

11. Accepting that the best part about Christmas break is spending time with family, no matter how crazy they drive you

Right?

12. Finally, realizing you have to go back to school any day now and that, although your family drove you insane, you will miss all of the shenanigans until the next break comes along.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
