Christmas is my favorite time of year. I love wrapping the presents, decorating the tree, making Christmas cookies, and just spending time with my family. Growing up, I often took for granted the fact that I was able to spend every December at home as I prepared to celebrate the holiday. Until my senior year, it didn't hit me that I wouldn't be home to celebrate the holiday season with my family as I always did.
At first, I didn't know what to make of this. As I looked at my schedule back in August, I was extremely disappointed to see that I wouldn't make it home until December 21- not nearly early enough to help my family put up decorations or pick out Christmas gifts with my mom. This was a fairly easy fix, as we put up decorations while I was home for Thanksgiving break and I was able to call my mom and go through what to get everyone for their gifts. However, it still doesn't feel the same as it did when I was able to curl up next to the fireplace with my family and watch a Christmas classic.
Even though I am missing this piece in my life, I am still so grateful for all of the new traditions I am making. My roommates and I have decorated our dorm to the max, play Christmas music every chance we get, and are celebrating Christmas as our own new little family. Despite having to study for finals when I would rather be drinking egg nog, I love that my roommates and I can still spread our Christmas cheer!
