Anyone who is a friend of mine, or follows me on social media, knows that I love music. People ask me all the time "Well what music do you listen to?" and honestly the answer is: everything! If you scroll through the genre's on my phone you will see a great variety of genres; and that's' just the music I've personally bought and downloaded onto my phone. I have so many other's that I simply stream from the internet.
Another thing you notice if you follow me is I like to spend my weekends at a certain place: The Hoosier Dome in Indy. It's a small venue, a hole in the wall among holes in the wall. A lot of smaller bands, or local bands, play there. It's my aesthetic, where I have met some really good friends and where I continue to make amazing memories.
On Easter weekend I went to another show at the Hoosier Dome and I wanted to take a super good friend of mine with me. I consider her my little sister, and since I've been away at college I hadn't seen her in a while. We'll call her "L". Well L's mother didn't let her go because she didn't want her daughter to go to a metal concert the day before Easter. As heart broken as I was that she couldn't make it, I was able to get ahold of my bestest friend ever and spend the evening with them.
As the night went on I found it very funny and ironic that L wasn't allowed to go because it was Easter weekend. Here's why: Half of the bands that played that night openly called themselves "Faith-Based band". One band even made it a point to talk about their faith to the audience; while all of them offered the crowd to talk to them if ever they needed someone to reach out to.
One of the bands is called "From these ruins". If you decide to look them up you'll notice that they aren't you're generic Christian band. Personally I think it is beautiful. A band like "From these Ruins" is in such a unique position to reach out to people who more than likely wouldn't enjoy Christian music otherwise.
Christian Metal/Rock/Hardcore bands are so important to the world. They might not be your generic, soft music; but not everyone likes music like that. Bands like "From these Ruins" are blessings to those who refuse to your stereotypical faith music. Metal can be Christian; and Christian can be metal.
