Spring Break 2016 is almost over. Yet, in my opinion, it was not wasted. Every year, Regent University teams up with Campus Ministries to take students on a missions trip to a big, urban city in the United States. This year, the missions team went to Music City, Nashville, Tennessee to minister to the homeless, jobless and other less fortunate. I had the great privilege of participating in this missions trip. I joined more than 40 Regent students on this incredible experience. Here is a recap of the many organizations and ministries I served with or for during my seven-day adventure.
Sunday, March 6: Holy Trinity Episcopal Church
This was a special day. The Regent Missions team was expected to attend three different church services, one each in the morning, afternoon and evening. The Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in downtown Nashville was intriguing to me because I had never attended a more traditional church service. A small group of students helped serve food to the homeless and poor while another bunch of Regent students sat with and talked to those who already received their food. I was among this bunch. It felt really good to spend time with all these men and women, learning about their lives. That experience was a blessing for me.
Monday, March 7, Wednesday, March 9 and Thursday, March 10: Cottage Cove
I loved the trips to Cottage Cove. This organization helps serve the inner-city children, learn about Jesus and his love for them and their families. I enjoyed spending time with the child I was assigned to, a third-grader named Moriah Bradley. I helped her with her homework and also with arts and crafts projects. I found out she is a clever, smart and funny girl. I did do my part as a Christian to pray for her and her family before I headed out for good.
Tuesday, March 8: Second Harvest
I enjoyed being at Second Harvest as well. This secular ministry stores food saved for the hungry and poor people of Nashville. I spent the majority of the day packaging up bottles of water and writing labels on these packages. But I didn’t do it all by myself, though. Three other Regent students, Daniel Miller, Hope Frisbie and Canon Waldemar gave me support and help when I needed it most.
