Why we should be looking for the rainbow after the rain

Choosing Positivity

Positivity. It’s something we can choose (or not choose) to have each day. The easy option is, of course, choosing negativity. The attitude comes so easily to us and is so familiar to our fallen, sinful nature. Besides, there are plenty of reasons to be negative and to choose to put on an attitude of negativity; the world around us is in such a bad place and there are so many bad people in this world, so it appears almost foolish to put on a smile and tell people that everything is going to be all right.

That’s where we’re wrong. It’s not foolish it’s brave. Putting on an attitude that exudes positivity is one of the best things you can do for this world right now. To be that ray of sunshine through the dark and ominous clouds is something truly extraordinary, and it could just brighten someone’s day.

God tells us in Psalm 30:11 “You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have loosed my sackcloth and girded me with gladness,” Basically this verse is telling us, hey! You don’t have to be sad or negative anymore, you can choose happiness, or positivity! God has made us new in Him and because of that, we can celebrate, be glad, and dance because of how happy we are!

Now don’t get me wrong here, we don’t need to ignore the negative aspects of the world and act like they aren’t there and they aren’t happening to those near and dear to us. We can be there for those who are broken and help them heal. We are told to be the salt and the light of the world, and that is exactly how we need to be acting. Reach out to those hurt by the world and teach them how to love again.

If anything, these tragedies around us have taught me something: there may be a terrible evil present in this world, but for every attack, every death, or every injury there is, there are so many more good people doing whatever they can to help out, whether it’s helping people heal mentally or physically, or even just praying for them. Good people still exist in this world and their spirits are so much stronger than those from the evil that looms over us.

So when going through your day today, be mindful. There are so many good things to find in life, even if they’re little. Sure you may have been late to that meeting today, but at least your co-worker saved you a seat so you could slip in as unnoticed as possible. You may have spilled your milk all over the floor this morning, but your mom and your sister both pitched in to help you out. Others see broken people and run to help them, because we’re all broken people and we need one another to heal. Healing doesn’t start unless you choose to see the brighter side, the positive side.

It may seem hopeless and like there is no good, but where there is evil, there is good, and good always prevails because our God is so much greater and so much bigger than what is happening here on Earth. So if anything, focus on God when all else fails, He is the source of all light and He keeps us safe.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
