Choose A Major That Means More Than A Degree To You
Denys Argyriou

Sure, college is a wonderful experience. You learn a lot, meet new people, and grow as a person. But just going to college to go is a bad idea. You will not feel fulfilled unless there is a deeper reason why you are there. When choosing a major, choose something that excites you, and that you could see yourself doing forever. Do not just do what your parent did or what they tell you to do. Even if a parent is paying for your tuition, this is your future, not theirs.

I have met a few people in college who are studying something that they do not even enjoy that much. As much as that might not make sense, I understand why. It can be hard to make that decision. It is hard to all of a sudden have to decide what it is we are going to do for the rest of our lives, and stick to it. But a lot of those same people that I know are full-heartedly passionate about something that they are not majoring in. They are just convinced by the statistics, and are looking at what would give them the better paycheck.

Well here's the thing. This world has way too many people in it who are just living for the big paycheck and the degree. There are way too many out there who are living out a career that is just good enough for them. They settle for what they have, because they do not see that there is better out there. This world needs more passionate people.

Quite frankly, I don't care what job you have as long as you are happy. I understand college isn't cheap, and career dreams are hard to reach. I understand that passions sometimes have to get poured down the drain, simply because life goes quickly and you need something that will give you money right away. I understand that not all circumstances are the same, and a job should never be what fulfills you the most anyway.

But if you are going to college and do not know what to major in or you just aren't sure of your major, this is for you. Figure out what makes your heart happy, and then figure out a major that goes with your passions and would truly keep you content forever. Because happiness is more important than just getting a degree or a paycheck. Do not listen to what anyone says. If you are passionate about something, do it. If you are going to study something anyway, there is not an excuse for not studying what you actually want to give time to.

The decision of your major is way more important than you think. In order to not be one of those people who does not get a job having to do with your degree, study what keeps you up late at night doing or thinking about. Sure, you might realize later that you would rather do something else, but at least you gave something your whole heart. Don't be afraid to live the fullest life you can. Don't be afraid to let your passion and heart for something guide the way. You honestly never know what can happen.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
