An ekphrastic poem is a representation of language in a work of art through the act of narrating. The work of art I used for an ekphrastic piece is called,The Nightmare made by the artist Henry Fuseli. This painting is one of the most disturbing pieces of art that was ever created.
The Nightmare
The Prince of lies must always look beautiful at first.
I lure her with a song.
This song can only be sung by me.
It swallowed her into a sudden sleep,
I comfort her with a trance deeper than the seas,
She comes to me with love in her heart
She actually believes
she is falling
in the hands of an angel.
Come here, come to me.
I toil with her golden caramel locks
caress that porcelain doll face of hers
Don't wake me up
About to grab her neck
In a blink of an eye
she takes off my mask
putting up a fight she won't win
Gently I crawl on top of
her cloud colored dress, sitting on her chest
Blood boiling in my veins.
My scarlet eyes shatters into the smog of inferno rains.
I am the dark, my words are too much in my heart.
Out of body experience unfolds
When the white horse of Revelations
comes monstering up from
behind the muddy curtains
Smiling at her fate with my friend until
I seize her with
a chant - chant - a chant that traps cornering her at
the end.
Then the lights went out.
