If you loved hide and go seek you would know that this is the typical beginning to the game. I love how it is pretty standard to say “ready or not here I come.”
Not in a cheesy way, but life is much like hide and go seek. Whether you are ready or not people, circumstances, and things will find you.
I wasn’t ready for my avocado to fall on the ground. I wasn’t ready for Augustus to die in The Fault In Our Stars. I wasn’t ready for freshman year of college to be over. I wasn’t ready for a loved one to die.
I’ve been realizing more and more that I will never be ready.
You will never be ready for this crazy, traumatic life.
When I carried my plate of avocado and I started to see it fall, but I wasn’t prepared for it to fall anyway. I knew Augustus was going to die, but I still cried my eyes out when reading the book. I did a countdown till the end of classes, but still couldn’t wrap my mind around moving out of my dorm room. I didn’t know a loved one was going to die, but I’m still sad.
Readiness is this illusion, but not a magicians' illusion that is easy to figure out. It’s an illusion that no matter how you expect to feel or deal with people and circumstances, you will always be in awe.
You may be asking yourself, how will I never be ready? And unfortunately, readiness is another part of life’s mysteries like traffic only on one side of the freeway or bad things happening to go people. It’s one of those annoying concepts that we just deal with; we can try control our life enough so we are “ready;” and, hopefully, find new things to hide behind in case we aren't.
