We all love and adore our favorite child actors, but do we ever think about what it’s like to be 6 or 7 years old in the film industry?
The horror stories about sexual assault, drugs, etc. that happen on these sets are terrifying to hear about when it affects adults, but what about the 6-year-old girl playing the adorable role as a kid? Are they taking care of her?
There have been so many accusations in the media lately involving men of authority taking advantage of their female staff on TV and movie sets, which make you wonder as well as worry about the young people surrounding these situations.
Even if they are not being directly affected by assault or the influence of men in power, they are still surrounded by this environment.
The media world is filled with pressures, temptations, and press. Kids exposed to this lifestyle at such a young age can be affected by any of these. The stories you hear on the news about another pop star turned druggie or another actress turned alcoholic are so common, that kids could be easily influenced by their presence.
Now, I'm not implying that every child star will end up a drug addict and in rehab, but there have been several cases of actors and actresses who start their careers at such a young age that do not end well.
Miley Cyrus, who starred in “Hannah Montana” at a young age, even had a falling out for a few years where she, as some would say, went off the deep end. Although Miley found her way back, others may not be so lucky.
Not only are the temptations an issue for children, but do they really know what they are getting themselves into? Parents may push their children into the business for money or fame, not even considering their child’s wellbeing or happiness.
Even though children are essential to the film industry as there are so many roles to fill, they still deserve a childhood not lost to the industry itself.
