On April 21, 2016, the world lost a legend. An inspiration to musicians around the world, Prince was an eclectic talent with soul and an unfathomable vocal range. With songs like “1999” and “I Wanna Be Your Lover,” Prince took R&B to a new level, adding his own funky twist to chart toppers. Prince has many aliases, some strong, some weak, but he will always be known for his incomparable musical abilities.
Not long before the death of Prince was the loss of one David Bowie, another musical inspiration gone too soon. An experimental musician of many faces and fashion statements, Bowie wowed the world with his courageous demeanor and catchy rock tunes. From London to New York, Bowie was an idol to so many music-lovers across the globe, and even after his passing, continues to be so.
Although a few years removed, no one can forget the devastating loss that was the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. Jackson remains to be a legend in his own right, shaking the music world down to the ground. With monumental dance moves like the moonwalk, to a mind-blowing vocal talent from the time he was a young boy, Jackson was destined to be a star. Even seven years after his death, Jackson remains and will forever more be the champion of the King of Pop title.
There is often a negative connotation that follows the lives of hit musicians who thrived in the 80s. They experimented with illegal substances, loose women often surrounded them, and they were simply ill influences on young children whose lives were invaded by their songs. Yet through all of the sex, drugs, and rock and roll, these iconic stars shaped the music industry. Unfortunately, these poor decisions have led to the early deaths of many of the world’s most indescribably talented music sensations. Yet their souls and inspirations will never die. Cheers to the ones who made me love music.
