This is the age of rage.
We live in a world where we constantly feel anger. We get angry at the person who cut us off on the road, at our boss, at our coworkers, at the leaky faucet. We seem to find a way to turn red faced and clench our fists at anything around us.
Given this connotation, anger has the ability to churn negativity inside of us. It can devour us from the inside out. However, what if I told you there's a way to channel this anger to change the world around us?
If you deeply care about something, it can stir up anger. This makes you willing to fight for something you believe in. Anger allows us to overcome the desire to let someone else handle what is bothering us. I believe it is the one emotion that can fully conquer ignorance. We need people who are fully alive, people who will wake up and completely feel. Anger is a raw emotion, an emotion of life. Anger can be the necessary fuel to drive us to act upon a spark of unhappiness.
John Chrysostom once said, "He who is not angry when he has cause to be sins." Simply put, if you experience this powerful emotion, it is a waste not to act upon it. I promise that if you follow the things that make you angry, chances are you'll find your calling. What you seek to change is one of your most powerful tools, simply because you have an army of emotion and determination behind it.
Given this statement, there is a time to be angry but that time is short. You have to act upon this limited opportunity before it becomes an inhibition to you. The most powerful ability one can possess is the ability to be angry and then have self-control. You must be able to act upon your tropical storm before it turns into a Category 4 hurricane. In an athlete's words, you have to be able to take yourself out of the game.
Whether this means putting your phone away or signing out of your social media accounts, don't let your incredible ability to feel to be your downfall. Your anger can be a weapon for good or it can be used as a weapon against you. You may have heard the saying (also a quality bible verse) to "Not let the sun go down while angry." Staying angry for an extended period of time makes a room that you've given evil the key to.
I encourage you to be alive and be stirred by things. Let things get under your skin. Martin Luther King is someone who let anger fuel his fight against injustice, but he never let it consume him to violent or "category 4" acts. Don't let other people's words dominate your mind. Master the art of channeling your anger to impact the world around you in a positive manner, one where instead of getting mad at your boss, you're the boss.
