What Are We So Afraid Of?

Most people are afraid of or resistant to change because it brings on the unknown. Moving out of your comfort zone always elicits a sense of self-doubt that can't be counteracted by a simple pat on the back or an "it will be okay". In these moments, we fail to realize that everything will, in fact, be alright, because we are blinded by our current anxious state of worry and contemplation.

Being anxious is not always a bad thing, but worrying is. Being anxious can give you the kick-drive that you need to accomplish a difficult task. It incites the desire to overcome. Worrying, however, will debilitate you and will make you over-analyze, and hinders your ability to believe- and believing is everything.

What you think, you become, so it is important to reflect on all of the good that can come out of a situation instead of fixating on the bad. It is hard to see through the pain or discomfort sometimes, but if something leaves your life, if you leave something behind, or if something new comes your way, know that it is for the best, and that new responsibilities or the lack of are propelling you into the next chapter in the book of your life- and we can't get stuck reading the same one.

We change for a reason. We are not the same people as our former selves for a reason. We are made to be who we are in different stages of our life, to get us through that particular time. If we are afraid of change we are complacent and unready to grow. Change is a good thing, and uncomfortability is your best friend.

Each of our lives is different, and even though we all hesitate to break routine, there is always a new one to be made. Each day, week, month and year brings something different and with it infinite possibilities. When the universe shifts, things can be altered in an instant. Good or bad. We should always be looking for the greater message behind each shift and be aware of what the world is trying to tell us, so we can become who we are meant to be. So we can appreciate the next chapter.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
