I Changed My Career Goal Junior Year

Crazy, I know.

At the start of college it's common to go in undecided in what you want to major in and ultimately do with your life.

Sure some people skip around every once in awhile and change their majors, but rarely have I heard of people doing this their junior year.

When I went to college I knew what I wanted to be, or at least I had a general idea.

I combined all of my passions in the form of a communications major that allowed me to be creative and create content along with a minor in business administration that let me tap into my other talents.

So with that I thought I would either be a reporter, due to my love of writing and performing, or maybe if that failed I could go into marketing. I would have been happy with either.

To build my resume and get experience in the broadcast world I got an internship over the summer at a local news station and while it was an amazing experience I started to realize I had another dream that I had been suppressing simply because I didn't think I was cut out for it.

I always had an underlying passion for law but decided not to pursue a pre-law path because I wasn't intelligent enough to get into law school.

However, after 2 years of college and 20 years of life, I have learned that I tend to surprise myself.

I never thought that I would get into a school like NC State or be in a sorority or get other opportunities I have had. I always underestimate myself, so going to law school was no different.

As I thought about it more though I knew that I would work hard towards getting into law school if I wanted it enough.

So after careful consideration and following my heart, I decided to start the path to law school.

I got lucky that I didn't have to change my major or take any other classes, as law school will let you in with any degree, but I still have the LSAT to tackle.

Here I am though in my junior year of college with a new career path and I realized that no matter how old you are it isn't too late.

If you are thinking of changing your major or even going back to school to get a degree in something, I think it is totally possible if you make it so.

Sure it can be very overwhelming and often scary because it is a big part of your life, but if you have passion towards it or maybe a lack of it for what you are doing now, there are other options.

So while it is a lot easier to switch your major earlier in the game, don't worry too much if you wait a while. Just meet with the right people and have them help you figure out how to make it work! In the long run it could definitely be worth it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
