Change Yourself Before You Change The World

Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing themselves.

Change is one of those words that sends shivers down the spines of some people. Upon first thought, it may sound intimidating, but change is so much more than your first initial thought. Change is a chance to start fresh, a chance to abandon your past ways and reinvent a new way of living. It’s an opportunity to redo past mistakes and a bridge to better things ahead if you have the courage to believe in it.

I can honestly say nothing bad has ever come from making a radical change in my lifestyle. Some changes in my life were necessary to achieve a broader horizon full of limitless possibilities. If you are conditioned to a life of comfort, how will you ever learn to push yourself to the next level to achieve your greatest aspirations? It’s not possible if you can’t learn to let go and let change in.

Admittedly, I was hesitant at first of letting go of everything I had grown accustomed to. Even the slightest thought of what my future would look like in a place I hadn’t ever called home scared me away from ever dreaming about the possibilities that could present themselves.

Change has the power to effect a person negatively or positively, but it is up to us to decide how we let change affect us.

The biggest learning curve for me was embracing the changes instead of resenting and fighting them. Life has a way of unfolding in a carefully calculated and perfect way. In order to truly reap the rewards though, you have to be open to letting go. It’s all about learning how to control the feelings that certain circumstances bring along with them. I didn’t say it would be an easy process, but in the end, it is worth the patience and waiting.

For a time, I would look into the mirror and not recognize who I saw. Although I was staring back at my reflection, it looked like this girl had an uncertain future filled with a worrisome conscious, unsure of who she was. I had grown into someone I wasn’t proud of, and let others take my identity and mold me into who they wanted me to be.

It wasn’t until an unfortunate occurrence took place when I was presented the opportunity to make a change, a big one at that. I had no other option other than learning to accept and embrace it. It took me three years until I learned to fully embrace the change and view it positively instead of investing all my negative energy into it.

Once I learned I had the ability to change my future with positive thinking, the opportunities were limitless. Now, I welcome change and challenge life to throw whatever it wants in my direction. I learned to embrace the changes and learned how to use them as a learning experience.

Change isn’t for everyone. Not every person is going to be willing to let go of the control they have over their life. I can tell you this though – letting go and letting life take its course is one of the best decisions I have ever made. The world is full of positivity regardless of the negative circumstances that occur in our lives.

At the end of the day, we have the final say. Are you ready for a change?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
