Apparently, there has always been some unspoken agreement that cats are the worst pets and anyone who thinks otherwise is a monster. But I'm proud to say that I'm a cat lover, and I think it's time that people change their attitudes towards cats.
I'll never forget the day that my mom was driving me home from my grandma's house and I saw a sign for free kittens. I begged her to stop so we could look, she obliged, and thus begun my unconditional love for cats as we took the last kitten in the box home with us.
Cats have a bad reputation because everyone always thinks they're rude and moody. I can be rude and moody too, but I like to think those aren't the first two words that come to mind when people describe me. The truth is that both people and animals have good and bad characteristics, some days are better than others and if you catch me on a rough one, you'll be sorry.
Sure, my cat isn't perfect, but for the past twelve years she's brought so much joy to my life. She loves to cuddle, she always follows me around the house when she wants attention, and I swear she knows when I'm sad and never fails to cheer me up.
Just because you can't pet a cat when you're on a walk in the park, mostly because they are way too independent to ever be put on a leash, doesn't mean that cats are the bane of everyone's existence. It's time to recreate the reputations of cats because it isn't fair to apply the mean stereotypes to every single fluffy kitten that's out there. So next time you see a cat, give him or her a chance because you might realize that cats actually are fantastic.
