Catfish and the Bottlemen have officially made their long-awaited return to the music scene. As of January 9, the band released their newest single "Longshot," an ode to recognizing the successes gained from the risks we each take. With a refreshing wave of optimism, Catfish and the Bottlemen's triumphant anthem has left fans begging for more.
Lead singer Van McCann spoke with Radio X about the meaning of "Longshot," simply stating that it is all about "taking a chance on something and it's paid off big time." In accordance, the meaning is clearly summarized within the chorus:
"Listen, the distance between us, could've took a while
Once we closed that difference, you turned up like a friend of mine
Every once in a while, the little things make me smile
As if one of the longshots paid off
One of the longshots paid off."
With lyrics like such, it is almost difficult for one not to smile themselves. "Longshot" is the perfect song to rock out to on your drive home from work, not only because of it's rather catchy tune, but because of the uplifting feel it provides listeners. Whether you have had an extremely productive day or a downright sh*tty one, this song is a continuous reminder to celebrate the accomplishments made over time and the chances we have all taken in life.
It speaks to the thoughts of growing older, wiser and more fruitful every day. Though we may not realize it in the moments we would rather forget than remember, "Longshot" exemplifies that we continuously learn from our experiences and that sometimes, we must dive headfirst into the water rather than step into the shallow.
In accordance with their newest release, Catfish and the Bottlemen have announced their upcoming tour dates for 2019, with sales beginning January 11.
