Catlas Smugged, an Ode to my 4-legged companions

I wonder if Ayn Rand had cats

Catlas Smugged, an Ode to my 4-legged companions

Is that my Kindle? Have they been reading Atlas Shrugged?

Their mysterious, "I rule" attitude will make you think they are there to take over your world, only to find they have taken over your heart.

Having laid down my sleepy head

At the end of such a horrid day,

Knowing each cat had been well fed

And I could snooze the night away,

Is she sucking her thumb??

There did appear in far dark hall

A shadow fluffed and arched up high,

And then that familiar sound did call

To my worn senses... NO, I sigh,

Did you put out my favorite food yet? I've been waiting at least 5 minutes

They surely cleaned half of their fur

From off each other's frame tonight,

I cannot stand it, my eyes a blur

As I crept down the hall with fright,

Bath time

I must tread lightly as I merge

Oh no, I fear it is too late,

To dodge the yak that they did purge

My foot has found its squishy fate,

If I hide behind this curtain, she'll never find me

You look so lovely on the chair

Curled up into a soft fur ball,

But up will come your brother's hair

Pulled from his tail while in the hall,

I am so precious this way...she cannot be cross with me

I know they love me, though they're smug

Their soft purrs whispered in my ear,

But how I dread the cat yak on the rug

It makes me shrug and run in fear,

Being entertained by human menial tasks and bird dwellings in the tree

Nestled beside me as I sleep

My heart's been pierced by Cupid's bow,

You live within its walls so deep

I love you kitties, as you know.

Whoever said "dogs have masters, cats have staff" surely were cat owners. Their mysterious personalities, snarkiness, camaraderie, and affection make them treasures, in every sense of the word. They change you. Their relaxed outlook on life relaxes you and helps you more calmly tackle the business of your day. When I am sick, they lie beside me. When I work, they surround me and remind me I am not alone. When I am sad, a gentle paw (with claws concealed) lightly touches my cheek. When I am sleeping and snooze through the alarm, they pounce me and make sure I get up. Their rhythmic motor that increases with rubbing their back, radiates their affection. They are the four-legged members of our clan, who inhabit our furniture and our hearts. We love you!

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
