What once started as an innocent drink at Starbucks has turned into a full-on autumn empire. No matter how hard I try, from August 28 to around November 1, I can't escape the onslaught of all things pumpkin spice. Everyone is so in-your-face about it, and there's almost an expectation for all twenty-something college girls to be obsessed with it, almost as if it's flowing through our veins for the next three months.
Well, I'm living proof that not every girl is obsessed with pumpkin spice.
I know I will probably lose my twenty-something college girl card as a result of this, but if I'm being completely honest here, I can't stand pumpkin spice. At first, it was just because I'm not a fan of the taste. That seemed to be enough of an excuse to get people to stop asking me to start drinking pumpkin spice lattes. But now, I can't get away from it! There are pumpkin spice Tide Pods, Pop Tarts, and even Twinkies. Everyone seems to completely and totally obsessed with it, except for me. I don't necessarily see that as a bad thing, though.
There are so many other ways to enjoy fall!
I love that I finally get the chance to wear my big, soft sweaters, watch as many Halloween-themed movies as I want, and enjoy the changing weather! Even though there are really no changing leaves in Arizona, I definitely love the change of weather and season over here. I can actually sit outside and have some food with a friend instead of sitting in a restaurant with A/C. I can also enjoy the really long walk that takes place in between classes. I've always found those walks to be extremely calming and are the perfect opportunity to listen to music or spend time with a friend. It definitely makes my classroom commute more enjoyable.
And who doesn't love a Halloween movie marathon? I can (finally) break out the blankets, make myself some hot chocolate-my preferred fall drink-and watch whatever scary/funny movie or TV show I want! I love the adrenaline rush that comes with getting scared, and I absolutely love to laugh. Plus, there's nothing better than being all cozy in blankets watching a bunch of movies. If you watch it with friends, it's even better! You can all be scared together! Plus, the reactions are nothing short of hilarious.
There is so much more to enjoy in fall than just pumpkin spice lattes. I still adore the cool weather, the blankets, and the entire coziness of the season. I just may stick to using my pumpkins for decorations instead of in my drink. If you need me, I'll be sipping my hot chocolate as my hot drink of choice.
