It’s that time of year again: summer is over and classes are well underway. Classes and homework seem to be taking away from your free time that you would otherwise share with your friends. Do yourself a favor and take a break. Make a plan to get together with your friends once a month. The best way to do that? Brunch!

Here are the five best brunch restaurants on Long Island or in New York City:

1. RHUM

Escape to a Caribbean paradise at RHUM, located in Patchogue. Enjoy breakfast tacos-of-the-day or their sweet banana bread toast. Whatever you decide to order, anything will match with their endless flavors of bottomless mimosas (limited to two hours). Choose between their signature rum punch mimosa or a bollini of many different flavors. Release that stress as your glass fills with champagne.

Saturday and Sundays only from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

($$$$)

2. Toast Coffeehouse

Relax in a calm and quiet environment at Toast Coffeehouse, located in Port Jefferson and Patchogue. They have many options to pick from off their breakfast menu from the traditional scrambled eggs, waffles, and pancakes, to burritos, and of course, toast. Match that with a mimosa or two for only $7 each! Make it an orange mimosa or pomegranate, or cranberry/orange, or lemon/blueberry, or Madrid red sangria, or even a Bloody Mary. Sip those troubles away.

Open seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

($$$$)

3. Croxley’s Ale House

Make it a more rebellious outing at a favorite local bar: Croxley’s. Croxley’s has many locations including Farmingdale and Smithtown. Their brunch menu contains many traditional options. Spice it up with two free Croxley blondes, Bloody Mary’s, mimosas, or screwdrivers with the purchase of a brunch entrée.

Sundays only

($$$$)

4. Wave Seafood Kitchen at Danford’s Hotel & Marina

Make it a fancy outing at Danford’s located in the heart of Port Jefferson. If you’re looking for unlimited food that everyone will like and unlimited beverages (not to mention all the mimosas you can drink), then Danford’s is the place for you. Pay a standard price of $29.95 for a farm-to-table concept which includes those bottomless mimosas.

Sunday’s only with seatings at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

($$$$)

5. The Crooked Knife

Make a day of the occasion. Travel to New York City to enjoy a day in the Big Apple and bottomless brunch. Paying the standard price of $39, you will get an entrée of your choice and bottomless mimosas and/or Bloody Mary’s (limited to two hours). Have fun with it!

Saturday or Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

($$$$)

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
