Is everlasting love possible in today's culture?
To me, the answer to this has seemed to be a big fat no. From seeing my parents fall out of love, and the open relationship culture that surrounds us I couldn't believe there was anything true about true love.
I've always dreamed about that Prince Charming, the one I meet and he totally sweeps me off my feet and we spend the rest of our lives together. This is the vision most girls have as "the one". Is he a real person though? Will we ever find that best friend? Life partner? Soulmate? Coming from broken families and watching people around us being two-timed and "played" makes teenagers today believe it's seemingly impossible.
God knows us and he knows love can last forever because that's how it was designed.
In 1 John 4, John tells us "Dear friends, we should love each other, because love comes from God. Everyone who loves has become God’s child. And so everyone who loves knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.” 1 John 4:7-8. God is the keystone of love because once we know and love God, we can love others. We can love others the truest and purest way because God's love is the truest and purest of all. God IS love, so it only makes sense to look to him to know what love is, not the culture that surrounds us.
So, is everlasting love possible in today's culture? The answer is yes, but the only way you can know how to love is by looking at the one who loves you the most, God. Just as Rick Warren says, "God's love is like an ocean. You can see its beginning, but not its end."
