Camila Cabello, formerly of the girl group Fifth Harmony, announced the final release date of January 12th, 2018, for her debut solo album, "Camila."
The album which was previously titled "The hurting, the healing, the loving" has been renamed to "Camila"to commemorate the end of a chapter in the young artist’s life and celebrate the start of her journey as a solo artist.
Fans have been anxiously waiting for an album release date since she released the lead single, “Crying in the Club” back in May 2017. Camila’s chart-topping single “Havana” which peaked at the number-two spot on Billboard Top 100 will be featured on her new album along with ten other tracks.
With the pre-order of "Camila," fans are offered two great tracks titled “Never Be the Same” and “Real Friends.” “Never Be the Same” builds slowly but eventually you get hit with a chorus that is sure to be an earworm. Camila’s distinctively unique vocals are showcased beautifully within this track about falling in love and the impact one person can leave on another.
“Real Friends” is my favorite of the two tracks released. Camila’s lower register is highlighted throughout this track which isn’t something we see often from her. Fans have speculated that the lyrics in this track could be about Camila’s former bandmates in Fifth Harmony. Whether or not that’s true, this track is one we all can relate to. The lyrics talk about weeding out your true friends throughout life and that is something we all have had to deal with at some point.
Cabello is definitely taking a step in the right direction from what I’ve seen of her album so far. She’s able to incorporate not only catchy beats but lyrics that everyone can relate to on a personal level. It seems as though Camila is coming out of her shell and trusting in the ability of her vocal range.
If she continues in this direction, her self-titled album could very easily take 2018 by storm.
