Are you always feeling burned out and exhausted? Do you feel like you have so many things on your mind? Let me guess. Even during the weekends, you are always thinking about work, instead of spending time with your family and friends.
I felt all of those emotions for a few months before I decided I had had enough. I was feeling so drained every single day after work, and I barely had time to spare for myself.
You may ask the question, "How about just clearing your schedule to have some me-time?" However, this wasn't just a matter of just clearing schedules or wedging in breaks between meetings.
When you are mentally depleted, you lose momentum and fail to get anything accomplished. Tasks just pile up. You end up using your personal time to complete work that should have been completed within a specific timeframe, which really sucks.
Before that familiar sense of dread reaches you, pack up and plan for a getaway. It can be as far as you can think to go, or it can even just be to a little town nearby.
It really doesn't matter, as long as you give yourself a well-deserved break.
Traveling is all about the experiences and moments, things that can't be defined by a couple of pictures on social media. So, never ever travel for the sake of social media, because that would seriously be redundant.
Travel for the sake of yourself, for your happiness and your mental health.
Certainly, seeing all the 'likes' on your latest traveling shot does give an ego boost and validation that you are living life right.
I don't deny that. Afterall, the 21stcentury is a social media era.
However, it can get really toxic, especially when you allow all these superficialities to consume you. What's the point of traveling when you're always on your phone or constantly refreshing your Instagram account to view the status of your latest picture?
Instead, shift your focus to what is important at the moment: that moment of bliss when you are enjoying a good cup of coffee, or simply poking fun at your traveling companion.
For my latest trip, I am glad that my traveling companion and I possessed the same vibes. She certainly helped me a lot throughout the whole experience, and it wouldn't be the same without her presence.
I will never forget how much fun we had in that husky café or those stress-free moments when we were strolling down the streets. Those emotions just can't be described, not unless you were there with us in that very moment.
No matter how descriptive you can be with words, there are always scenarios in which even the most eloquent person has a tough time expressing something. Traveling is one of those.
Don't put yourself in a situation where your stress threshold is being pushed to the limit. Instead, give yourself a break and start planning for your next trip.
Near or far, it doesn't matter. At the end of the day, never compromise your emotional health.
