11 Reasons Buffy Anne Summers Slays EVERYthing, Not Just Vampires

She saved the world a lot.

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" was an iconic television show created by Joss Whedon running on air from in the late '90s to early '00s. The show centered on Buffy Anne Summers, a high school student who was called upon to fight the forces of darkness while still trying to wear the latest fashions, pass history class, and spend time with her friends. The blonde teenager is my absolute favorite character from my favorite TV show.

Honestly, Buffy Summers everything.

1. Her pun game

Buffy just wouldn't be complete without her puns. A slaying job could not be finished unless there was a witty comment to go along with it. In the sixth season, Willow even programmed the Buffybot with puns because she knew that her best friend would not be complete without them.

2. She died and came back to life... TWICE

Coming back to life once is awesome. Doing it twice is stellar. Buffy died in season one after facing the Master, but Xander revived her, performing CPR. In the fifth season finale, she jumps into the portal that Glory made to save the world. Her headstone read: "She saved the world a lot." However, witchy Willow resurrects Buffy in the sixth season premiere. It's understandable that was confused and scared after coming back to life after being dead for so long but the Slayer handled it like a pro.

3. She sacrificed her life for her sister's

... who wasn't really her sister. Some monks made her sister out of her. Long story. When she realized Dawn had the intention of killing herself to save the world from Glory, the Big Bad of season five, Buffy had no hesitation once she realized that she and Dawn shared the blood and death was her gift. She jumped right into that portal.

4. She found her mother's dead body

And was somehow OK after that. Sadly, Joyce Summers died of an aneurysm and was only one of two characters to die of natural causes on her own. Buffy walked into the house and saw her mother's lifeless body on the couch. She calls emergency services and her brain creates a scenario where Joyce is revived. That is not the case when the EMTs declare her dead at the scene and Buffy has to tell her younger sister (who, again, is not really her sister) that her mother died. I know I would not be able to function after that.

5. She stood up for what she believed in

Buffy and her Watcher, Rupert Giles, had a different relationship from those of normal. She looked at him as a father figure as her own was absent and he fought with her instead of purely just training her. Because of Giles countless times defying the Watcher's Council to save Buffy, they fired him and provided Buffy with a new Watcher, Wesley Wyndham-Pryce. Buffy disbanded herself from the Council and refused to do anything for them.

6. She fell in love with two vampires. Two.

The vampire Slayer ended up falling in love with vampires. Ironic, huh? There was Angel, the cursed vampire with a soul who could easily change to the version of himself without a soul. Then there was Spike, who despised Buffy when they first met and even tried to kill her as vampires do. However, Spike went through trials to retrieve his soul so Buffy would love him back. Bangel or Spuffy?

7. She killed her true love to save the world

When Angel lost his soul and became the evil vampire Angelus, the only way to save the world was to kill him, sending him to Hell, and Buffy did that. She tends to save the world a lot. Although Angel forgave her in the end, it still took an emotional toll on her knowing that she doomed her true love to Hell.

8. Her strength

While Buffy's emotional strength is immense, her physical strength is not to be tested either. Sarah Michelle Gellar, the actress who portrays Buffy is relatively a small height and thin. Being a Slayer, Buffy has increased strength and agility and her small frame is somewhat of an advantage as her opponents underestimate her.

9. She was always fashionable and trendy despite her Slayer duties

When first arriving at Sunnydale High School, resident popular girl Cordelia Chase thought Buffy was "cool" enough to join her minions known as the Cordettes. Buffy Summers defeats things that go bump in the night and looks good while doing it. If that isn't the definition of LITERAL slaying, then I don't know what is.

10. She managed COLLEGE despite her Slayer duties

College is hard enough as it is. It's even harder when you have to go out patrolling every night and have the occasional day job of destroying a dark force. Buffy did drop out, in the end, to help provide for herself and Dawn, but the fact that she managed as long as she did is astounding. You go, girl.

11. She activated every Potential Slayer

In the seventh and final season of the show, Buffy rallies a large group of Potential Slayers to take down the biggest bad of them all: the First Evil. Unfortunately, Buffy and Faith were the only ones who had full Slayer abilities so Willow performed a spell that activated all of girls who had the potential to become Slayers. A world full of badass females. Nice.

I like to think that the character of Buffy Summers has shaped me into the person I am today as I watched the show from a young age. She taught me countless things and was the first real feminist icon I was introduced to. I love you, B.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
