The Bruins 2016-2017 Season Is Already Painful

The Bruins seem to have effectively already flushed their chances of getting into the playoffs down the toilet because that's how pitiful they are this season

The Bruins 2016-2017 Season Is Already Painful

I’ve been a fan of the Bruins since I came out of the womb. I have been an avid fan since 2011 (yes, I was a bandwagon fan at that time, sort of). However, I have become immersed in the world of hockey. I even did my undergraduate thesis on Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy in hockey players.

I was never pleased with Chiarelli as GM. I will be forever bitter about the Johnny Boychuk trade. At that moment when I heard he went to the Isles, I knew the season had already been flushed down the toilet. I thought Don Sweeney would shake things up for the 2015-2016 season, maybe get some good defensemen back. Get some strong wingers. Nope.

The things I am unhappy pissed off about

  • Not signing Jeremy Smith at the end of the 2015-2016 season. Smith had been with the AHL Bruins for two years. Before that, I had seen him play with the Springfield Falcons. He has immense talent and room to grow. He could have absolutely been Tuukka’s backup this season. Nope, they sign Anton Khudobin for DOUBLE what they were paying Smith. It drives me mad that he wasn’t given the chance to develop in the NHL with the Bruins because he would have been a solid backup this season.
  • Buying out Dennis Seidenberg. Yeah, he’s struggled with injuries, but the man is a machine. He grinds. He is a solid, good defenseman. He would have been about $800,000 cheaper than John-Michael Liles who is pretty much useless. He’s not the hard-hitting, backbone sort of defenseman that Seidenberg is. The Isles got a steal with scoring him.
  • Re-signing Miller for two years was absolutely idiotic. FOUR MORE YEARS?! WHAT THE HELL WAS MANAGEMENT THINKING?! The dude makes more turnovers than my grandmother did for the holiday season.
  • Jimmy Hayes has been useless. They should have traded or gotten rid of him. I never notice him making a difference on the ice.
  • Stop trying to make Malcolm Subban be the next star. He has talent, but he has clearly shown he can’t handle the NHL at the moment. Trade him to get some solid defensemen to help this team now.
  • Who the f*ck trades anything or pays anything for Zac Rinaldo? He’s a hack and an embarrassment to the game.
  • Adam McQuaid is also dead weight. He is overpaid and always hurt.
  • Joe Morrow can leave, not enough improvement in the time the Bruins have given him.

What the Bruins should have done and what they should do

  • Get rid of K. Miller, McQuaid, Liles, and Subban.
  • Give Colby Cave and Colton Hargrove some playing time in the NHL, they have talent. Hargrove is a left wing and the Bruins seriously need one because all they have is Marchand and Beleskey.
  • Bring up Chris Breen, Matt Grzelcyk, and Chris Casto. Breen and Casto definitely have talent, Breen has the size, good speed for his size, and is accurate and Casto the speed, creativity, and the willingness to jump into any play. Grzelcyk, while he is small, he is fast, he has some pretty silky mitts, and has a high hockey IQ.

The few things the Bruins haven’t f*cked up

  • Bringing up Noel Acciari, Austin Czarnik, and Danton Heinen. They all have great potential to make the Bruins a better Stanley Cup contender team.
  • Getting David Backes. He is a great forward, good goal scorer, will do anything for his team, and plus, he’s a huge advocate for animal rights. He also champions adopting animals and he and his wife donate a lot of their time and money to help animals in need. He’s just an awesome dude.

The Bruins sorely need some solid, healthy, and strong defensemen. They need defensive defensemen. No more offensive defensemen. It’s apparent that even with the offensive defensemen, they can’t score. Invest in some more consistent players that score (thankfully they at least got Backes). Spend more time developing the defensemen in the AHL. They have the capability to be what the Bruins need.

If and when Tuukka ever makes it back this season, prepare the milkcrates.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
