I have an unusual family. By this I mean that I have seven younger brothers, yes, I said seven, and one older sister. Before you go thinking "damn, did her parents ever leave the house" you should know that we don't all share the same two parents. That is besides the point, though. My brothers' ages range from three to eighteen. It is absolutely crazy. I could not be happier to have my mom and my sister to keep me sane-- this is no exaggeration. However, having seven younger brothers has taught me A LOT of valuable lessons in some very odd ways. Let me explain.
1. Anything you say CAN and WILL be held against you.
Today, for example, I may have told my five year old brother he was a little shit which he then repeated for an entire crowd of people... oops, sorry mom.
2. Don't put your money where your mouth is.
When you say I bet you $10 that I'm right and you end up being wrong; you better be ready to pay up. They won't forget you said it and they sure as hell won't let you forget it either.
3. How to be a best friend.
I got really lucky, honestly, I have seven of the coolest friends in the world. I may only be slightly biased.
4. Honesty is the best policy.
Nothing gets passed any of my brothers. So don't expect to have a bad hair day and NOT get made fun of for it. Also, don't say anything around them you don't want someone else to hear about... the little ones can't keep secrets.
5. Be proud.
I am not only proud of my own accomplishments, but also theirs. They all have extremely unique talents and I admire all of their abilities.
6. Be yourself.
We're a hot mess of weirdos. I feel no need to explain this any further.
7. You are never alone.
Mostly because we're too busy playing with dinosaurs, watching paw patrol, or driving to Starbucks. We actually just like to hang out with each other, we don't need to be alone.
