My brother and I seem to be from a different breed. We are the polar opposite in every single part of life. From a young age, it was obvious we were different, and it is not because he is a boy and I a girl. It always seemed like he had the easier time because of our personalities—him being relaxed and easy going and me being a little more type A.
In fact, it is now even more apparent. A sophomore in high school, he is having such a starkly different high school experience. I went to a magnet school roughly thirty minutes from my house and he goes to the regional high school a mere five minutes away by foot. He tells me about how some of his classmates have to repeat freshmen classes and I remember some of my classmates being heartbroken over completing a class with an A-. I have also never seen him break a sweat about an upcoming test, even finals.
He is having a traditional high school experience, and I could not happier. I will not go as far and say that he has it way easier than I did because I don't really care if he does. I loved my high school, but he is getting a completely different take. On varsity football, he gets to have those pep rallies and big games. He gets to hang out with his friends more often because school gets let out early and his friends are all within walking distance. His school has spirit and homecoming and junior and senior prom. His school is like an episode of "Friday Night Lights" and I love it.
It is so easy to compare siblings and honestly, I thought I would be a little jealous over how much "easier" it seems to have it. However, he is having the complete opposite of what I had, and I am so happy for him. This is the type of environment that he will succeed most in both academically and socially.
