To The Brother Who Doesn't Think I Appreciate Him

I am just being the typical older sister.

Dear Michael,

Having you as a brother is the best blessing God could have ever given me even if you don't believe that. I will admit you are annoying sometimes, more like all the time, but that doesn't change the love I have for you. Watching you grow up into the person you are today is such a blessing. But, besides the mushy stuff I want to explain to you why I do what I do:

I bother you to do things not to make you do me favors, but to stop you from getting in trouble.

I'll tell you to throw something away or put away your bowl not because I want to be annoying. I do it because I am trying to make sure you don't get yelled at for not doing it on your own.

I call you constantly because I want to hear about your life.

I don't care that you hate talking on your phone. I want to hear about your life, and I do not appreciate the one word answers. No matter how hard you try you can't dodge my calls forever.

I ask you about your girl issues because I want to help.

I understand that we are crazy. So, why wouldn't you come to me to talk about it? I am a girl who has feelings and understands how other girls feel, outside of being your annoying sister.

I drag you to dinner with me when I am home because you don't answer the phone.

Like I said you cannot run from me forever. I know you are at the age that you feel like you are too cool to do anything with me, but I do not care. And how can you pass up free food?

I cuddle you because I miss you, greatly.

I get it you are too cool to be hugging me, but just let me do it sometimes. It is hard to believe, but I actually miss you. I know shocking, right? I miss seeing your face everyday, and if I am able to hug you, I will while I can.

At the end of the day I do it all because I love you.

I want the best for you. I want you to be the best person you can be, and you are doing an amazing job.

I love you immensely, and I don't know how else to show you. I know I annoy you, but I promise it is all out of love. I am proud of the person you have become. You are determined, witty, self-sufficient, compassionate, and the list can go on. I love to watch you play baseball, and see all that you accomplished through that. I am so proud and honored to call you my little brother, and I feel like you don't believe me when I say that. Michael I wouldn't want to call anyone else my little brother, and one day I hope you see that. Just know that, you are truly loved. Never forget that.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
