Everyone who has access to the internet has heard of Cookie DO, the specialty dessert store that sells scoops of safe-to-eat raw cookie dough here in NYC.
However, while the store's more popular flavors such as signature chocolate chip and sugar cookie have been tried and tested by many a food blogger and excited tourist, one of their newest flavors has yet to be so widely sampled. As such, I made it my mission to try out one of DO's newest and most creative flavors yet: brookie dough.
Made out of raw brownie and raw chocolate chip cookie doughs, brookie dough promised to be a sweet sensation: after all, how hard is it to make delicious chocolate dough taste good?
While I was a little worried that the concoction would be too sweet and would overpower the subtle salty tang of the dough, I didn't have to worry: my first bite of brookie dough was a perfect combination of sweet and salty, chocolate and brown sugar.
The texture is a little creamier than their other dough options, partially because brookie dough contains fewer mix-ins than other flavors and partially because the dough was especially fresh. Apparently, they had already sold out of this flavor earlier in the day and this was the second batch!
While I was unable to finish the bowl of dough in a single sitting (the dough is surprisingly filling!) I brought the dough home and continued to nibble on the dessert throughout the night and was able to finish up my two scoops with relish.
Overall, I would highly recommend trying brookie dough next time you brave DO's long lines. While your favorite flavors might be classics, this new take on a delicious treat is a definite showstopper that's worth a leap of faith.
