We've all said the phrase "I'm too broke for that." But maybe you don't realize you're actually having the time of your life while you're worrying about the lack of money you have right now. We all know you're still going to spend the little amount you have left in your bank account on something you don't need but it won't matter in a week or a month or a year.
The best time of your life is when you're in college. You may be stressed about classes or how you are going to make it work with those few meal swipes or leftovers you have left for the rest of the week, but at the end of the day, it doesn't get any better than college and here's why.
You are independent. You finally don't have all those texts from mom saying, "Where are you?" or "When will you be home?" You have freedom to do what you want when you want to do it.
You will meet friends that you will have for the rest of your life. The people that become your friends and roommates are people that are going to be part of your life for a long time.
You will find your place. Whether it's finding the career that you know you are going to love or becoming part of an organization that you want to put all the effort you can into it, it's an amazing feeling.
You are going to spend that last $13.47 in your bank account. Those lifelong friends that you have made now are going to convince you that you definitely need to eat Chipotle the day after you go out or that you should buy a new shirt for the upcoming weekend.
It's OK to spend to spend that last $13.47 in your bank account. No one looks back on their college years and thinks, "I'm so glad I didn't go on that trip" or "I'm still mad at myself for spending $15 on pizza my junior year." It's all about living in the moment.
So enjoy your college years while you can because they go a lot faster than you would think. Spend the money on the concert you've been dying to go to, the road trip that you've always wanted to take, or the shoes that are slightly out of your price range. Before you know it you'll be preparing for graduation or finding a full time job, and it'll be less acceptable for you to ask your parents if they can transfer a few dollars into your bank account.
Being a broke college kid isn't all bad - it actually makes for some pretty great stories.
