In fall 2016 NBC debuted an original show that grabbed America right in the feels. That show is called This Is Us and its second season makes viewers even more emotional than the first.
I encourage everyone from every walk of life to watch this show because I promise that you will relate to some character, some storyline, or some backstory. This article is going to be very spoiler heavy.
The show jumps around in time from the 1980s to 2018 and in last week's episode the future. The show centers around the Pearson family, Jack and Rebecca and their triples- Kevin, Kate, and adopted Randall.
We learn early on in the series that Jack has passed away and last week we learned that this happened on Super Bowl Sunday 1998 from smoke inhalation when their house caught on fire.
This show centers around real-life triumphs and hardships. There is drug addiction and alcoholism, adoption, injuries, miscarriages, stillbirths, career changes, and death. This show normalizes life's struggles and shows everyone that they are not alone.
As someone who is very passionate about normalizing the grieving process, this show is both painfully real and incredibly comforting.
Our fast-paced society does not talk about grief or death and makes us believe we need to move on as fast as possible. Their patriarch Jack has been gone for 20 years and we can still see the pain and sadness all over their faces.
His children and his wife struggle with blame and regret even 20 years later, but they also reminisce about all of the amazing times during their lives with him.
This Is Us is a show that America needed and I am so grateful that NBC brought this show to the forefront and is normalizing life and as it is- both the good and the bad.
