"Bridgerton" is based off of Julia Quinn's novels that are set in the competitive world of London during debutante season. The series follows the Bridgerton family, which includes Dowager Viscountess Bridgerton and her daughters Daphne, Eloise, Francesca,
and Hyacinth. Her sons are Anthony, Benedict, Colin, and Gregory.
Daphne is the oldest daughter of Dowager, and she was presented in front of Queen Charlotte who praised her very highly over the other ladies. Daphne is now set to wed, hoping to find a well enough suitor to marry and have children with. Daphne's oldest brother, Anthony, deems all of her suitors unworthy making it difficult for Daphne to wed.
But along comes Simón Basset, who is The Duke of Hastings, returning to London to take care of his late father's affairs. Simon and Anthony are very good friends after attending college together. Anthony knows Simon doesn't plan on marrying or having children because of his late father.
So the Duke and Daphne form an alliance - the Duke will pretend to be interested in her, so suitors will come and ask for her hand in marriage. This works until she catches the eye of a prince and must figure out if she was only just pretending with the Duke.
