Craft beer has become very up-and-coming within the last ten years, and what better way to spend a Saturday afternoon than brewery hopping in the beautiful city of Asheville, North Carolina!
1. Wicked Weed/The Funkatorium
Wicked Weed is one the most popular North Carolina breweries, and although the ownership has changed to Anheuser Busch, the brews are still better than ever. This brewery has become so large that they now have two different facilities. The Funkatorium is where all of the sour ales are made, and they also specialize in barrel-aged sours. When I visited I enjoyed the Malice, which is a Brettanomyces farmhouse style ale, brewed with blood orange and tamarind. This is a very unique style of beer and even if you don’t particularly enjoy sours, there is bound to be something here you enjoy! The ‘main’ location of wicked weed has a full bar and restaurant. Be sure to check out there brunch on Sunday afternoons, especially for the Bloody Mary bar!
4. New Belgium Brewery
New Belgium originates in Fort Collins, Colorado, however, recently have branched out to this location in North Carolina. The facilities here are absolutely huge and the brewery tour is one with lots of samples and laughs! The classic New Belgium beers are served here, as well as, and my personal favorites are their sour ales! Be sure to build a six-pack so you can enjoy these beers in the comfort of your own home any day of the week!
5. Twin Leaf Brewery
Twin Leaf had a very wide variety of craft beers on tap, so there is something for everyone to enjoy! When I visited this brewery they had a beer and doughnut-pairing going on, what could be better? Personally, I really enjoyed this place because they had Jenga, corn hole, board games and live music!
6. One World Brewery
This brewery is totally underground, it is down an ally and two flights of stairs, but don’t let that scare you off! This brewery is super rustic and clean, with some of the best bar staff in town! They oftentimes have hoppy beers for you to sample and enjoy! All around you is the fermentation process so you can literally see how the beer is made. If you cant decide on just one beer, I suggest getting a flight so you can try a few different ones!
These are just a few places I was lucky enough to check out in Asheville during my visit! There are about twenty-five breweries in Asheville alone so definitely be sure to check them out and let me know what you think!
