Those lines from the title and song are so true.
And so personal.
Like many of you, my To-Do list consumes who I am and controls my life. I've been getting better at prioritizing (especially when it comes to spending time with my family), but that doesn't stop me from wanting to throw in the towel at some points in my life. Everyday tasks and long-term goals piled high with stress and pressure definitely make this life challenging.
It really can be the cruelest thing.
But then, I look at Jesus, and how He taught us to live day by day and wait for the Father. Jesus had no home. No transportation. No immediate source of income or job. But the Father provided for Him. He prayed earnestly and often. How crazy is that? The Son of God prayed to God?? The night before his trial and death, He's on His knees praying for deliverance but actually says that IT'S OKAY if it doesn't work out my way. What? Maybe I'm not as spiritual or as righteous as some others, but that content attitude is not usually my go-to answer when something bad or stressful is happening.
We're supposed to be imitators of Christ, and this is one area that I believe a lot of us just aren't hitting the mark. So let's strive to be like Jesus and be totally dependent on our Heavenly Father.
This takes practice. This take work. It's odd that letting go (which should require no effort at all) can actually take quite a bit of work. But in the end, it's so worth it.
Next time your day has taken a turn for the worst and you want to just drive away from everything and everyone, remember to take a few deep breaths and pray. Take a minute and survey your life and how God actually is working in it. Take a second and breathe.
"Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?" Matthew 6:26-7 ESV
