Despite the advancements in the 21st century, we face an unfortunate tragedy which continues to suppress people even today. This has to do with the sexual harassment cases that have been spurring lately in various high-profile examples around us. From Bill Cosby to the current POTUS, countless men today, face accusations of harassment that shows us the problem that is impacting our society even today. But when begin asking ourselves what the severity of the issue, why this is a prominent issue that many faces even today, we may not be able to answer the question. It is an issue that shows us that there is a stigma around the female gender that continues to rise.

As an individual who is from a culture, where woman are considered to be inferior it may be difficult to understand why such beliefs are prominent in a country where freedom and equality seem to be a rough idea. However, as an individual living in a nation made of various cultures, does it mean that we have genuinely escaped the customs from back home, or have we merely brought them along? As an individual who understands the significance of the #metoo campaign, it makes my blood boil. But, how do we expect for an issue to be resolved when women are expected to remain quiet, or even told that we speak lies about the incidents of sexual harassment that occur?

After many significant cases of harassment have broken the news, it seems that many women have been able to gain the confidence to come forward and speak about what they have faced. We have seen many public figures withstand the effects of their acts; this is a stepping stone which would allow the world to gain the necessary confidence to speak up. But, is this allowing for women who work outside the media, to come forward about what they are experiencing?

Unfortunately, this issue is something that has prevailed for countless years, and it seems that no matter how far we may come, there will always be issues that women face. This may rise, because of the lack of respect that women may have. We also have seen women have only recently have started obtaining their roles in dominant male fields, therefore making them vulnerable to the actions of men.

It is unfortunate that people can get away with these kinds of behaviors. Thus, we have to identify the issues when they first happen. I hope that through the various cases that have taken place, we can gain the confidence to speak up when incidents of harassments occur so that we can make immediate action against them.

As women, we begin to understand our roles in society and use the confidence that we have gained over the years we may be able to prevail in averting such conditions that allow us to live in the past that has suppressed us.
