Finals have arrived! This may seem like the most important thing going on right now for all college students, but life goes on beyond the library doors. The world still spins, and it seems to be spinning out of control. While you cram for your exams and type away to reach that word count, here are a few headlines of what's going on around you.
1. Avocado prices are rising.
China is becoming basic. China and the US have been increasing their consumption of avocados and as a result, prices are rising. The US gets most of its avocados from Mexico and California. This year the crop production is expected to be lighter, mainly due to the way avocados are grown. So what now? China figured out our secret, avocados are the bomb. Just remember when you go to Chipotle, guac is extra!
2. Hacker messes with Netflix.
Some episodes from season five of Orange is the New Black were leaked. This hacker, “thedarkoverlord” broke into a production studio’s system and stole much more than Orange is the New Black. Maybe you're happy that the shows were released early, but don’t be fooled. If a company used by popular TV studios has been compromised by just one hacker, then who is next?
3. Cougar sighting.
Not Madonna. An actual cougar was shot in downtown Salt Lake City before dawn on Saturday. It was sighted by two kids from inside their home. The police were called and unfortunately had to kill the animal. Imagine seeing that outside your window? Yikes.
